What is a Vietnam business visa?

A Vietnam business visa is a short-term visa that allows foreign nationals to enter Vietnam for various business-related activities, including attending conferences, signing contracts, conducting market research, collaborating with local companies, and more.

According to Vietnamese law, a business visa can be issued with a validity of 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year and can be granted for either single or multiple entries. For 1-month and 3-month business visas, foreigners are not required to apply for a work permit in Vietnam.

Types of Vietnam business visa

According to the revised Immigration Law 2019, Vietnam offers two types of business visas for foreign nationals: DN1 and DN2.

  1. DN1 Visa:

The DN1 visa is designed for foreigners entering Vietnam to work in an enterprise or organization with legal status. The sponsoring company must take responsibility for the foreigner’s visa application. Eligible companies include:

  • Limited liability companies (LLC)
  • Joint stock companies
  • Branches of LLCs or joint stock companies
  • Companies with foreign investment
  • Domestic companies (100% Vietnamese capital)
  1. DN2 Visa:

The DN2 visa is granted to foreigners entering Vietnam for business-related activities, such as promoting services, establishing a company, or conducting business operations under international agreements to which Vietnam is a party.

Unlike the DN1 visa, the DN2 visa does not require the foreigner to work for a specific company in Vietnam. However, they must still have a sponsoring enterprise or organization to guarantee their entry and ensure their business activities align with Vietnam’s regulations.

Vietnam business visa requirements

Except for citizens of Vietnam visa-free countries, all foreign nationals must obtain a business visa to conduct business activities in Vietnam.

To qualify for a Vietnam business visa, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Eligibility for Entry: You must not be subject to any entry restrictions or prohibitions in Vietnam.
  2. Sponsoring Company: You must have a sponsor company in Vietnam (the company you will work with upon arrival). The sponsoring company must be a legitimate business entity, not a service or ghost company, as using an unreliable sponsor may lead to complications.
  3. Valid Passport: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your intended entry date into Vietnam and contain at least two blank pages.
  4. Portrait Photos: You must provide passport-sized photos (4×6 cm or 2×2 inches) with a white background. The format depends on the method of visa application (physical copies or digital .jpg files).
