As of 2024, Australian citizens need a valid visa to enter Vietnam and can apply for a 90-day e-visa (single or multiple entry). The following documents are required for the Vietnam visa/e-visa for Canadian citizens:

6. Visa Exemption for Canadian Citizens

Canadian citizens may be eligible to apply for a 5-year visa exemption for Vietnam, granted by the relevant authorities, if they have a Vietnamese relative as a guarantor. To qualify, the visa applicant and the guarantor must provide documentation proving their family relationship.

6.1. Conditions for Visa Exemption

Canadian passport holders can be exempt from visas in Vietnam if the following conditions are met:

  1. Valid Passport: The passport or international travel document must be valid for at least one year.
  2. Family Relationship:
  • The applicant must have a Vietnamese relative, such as a spouse or child, who can serve as a guarantor. 
  • Relevant documents proving the relationship, such as a marriage or birth certificate, must be provided in accordance with Article 2 of Decree No. 82/2015/NĐ-CP.
  1. No Entry Restrictions
  • The applicant must not be subject to any entry ban or exit delay as stipulated in Article 28 of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam No. 47/2014/QH13.

6.2. Required Documents for 5-Year Visa Exemption

  • Visa Exemption Request Form: Complete the form for a 5-year visa exemption (as per the provided template).
  • Photos: Two 4×6 portrait photos with a white background (one attached to the form, one for records).
  • Valid Passport: Canada passport or travel document valid for at least one year (original and a copy).
  • Proof of Family Relationship: Documents such as a marriage certificate, birth certificate, or adoption decision proving the relationship with a Vietnamese national residing abroad (notarized copy or original for verification).
