1. What’s new?
According to the Government’s Resolution No. 11/NQ-CP released on January 15, 2025, starting March 1, 2025, Vietnam will grant visa exemptions to citizens of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland.
This new policy, effective until December 31, 2025, allows citizens of these countries to stay in Vietnam for up to 45 days without a visa for tourism purposes. The decision is part of the Vietnamese government’s initiative to promote tourism and improve the travel experience for international visitors.
Currently, several nations also benefit from Vietnam visa-free travel, with citizens of 13 countries—namely Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Belarus—allowed to stay for up to 45 days from the date of entry.
Tourists from Switzerland, Czechia, and Poland can now stay in Vietnam visa-free for up to 45 days as visitors.
2. How to apply Vietnam visa
Now, Vietnam visa can be obtained through one of the following two ways:
- Visa on arrival (VOA) is a visa that can be obtained at the border of a country. It’s also known as a border gate visa.
- E-visa is a travel document issued by Vietnamese authorities granting permission to enter Vietnam. The Vietnam e-Visa is valid for up to 90 days, with single or multiple entries

What you need to apply
In general, to apply for a Vietnam visa, you will need to prepare:
- Your original passport (must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date and have at least 2 blank pages).
- Two (02) passport-sized photos (4×6 cm)) with a white background (no glasses).
- A visa approval letter (if applying for a visa on arrival).
- The Entry and Exit Form.
- The application fee (depending on the type of visa) and payment method, such as a credit or debit card.

How to apply
You can apply for a Vietnam visa online or at an airport.
– Online application
- Go to the official Vietnamese government website.
- Complete the online application form.
- Pay the visa fee.
- Wait for your application to be processed.
- Check your approval status.
- Print out your e-Visa form.
- Bring your e-Visa form with you when you enter Vietnam.
– Visa on arrival (VOA)
- Submit the application form online for an approval letter.
- Pay the service fee.
- Receive the approval letter via email and print it out.
- Prepare the visa application form, 2 passport-sized photos (4x6cm), your passport, and cash for the stamping fee.
- Present these documents at the Landing Visa (VOA) Counter at a Vietnam international airport to get your visa stamped.
A Vietnam visa stamp is a sticker or stamp placed in a passport, obtained upon arrival at the airport.
What you can expect
- The standard processing time for an e-visa is 3–7 business days.
- You should apply for your visa at least 2–3 weeks before your departure date.
- You can enter and exit Vietnam through designated international border gates.
